When your best friend is also your boss, ‘great ideas’ aren’t always optional.
After all, when you run the largest fashion, gossip and trend blog in the country, you got to take risks to keep it edgy.
Believe me. This is edgy.
The idea? For one week, date every male fantasy.
The list?
The Jock
The Rock star
The Billionaire
The Stepbrother

See how they are all crossed off except one? That’s because he’s Satan.
And Scottish.
And my best friend’s stepbrother.
And there may or may not have been an incident in Jr. high that he hasn’t forgiven me for…but that’s history.
Or so I hope, because I’m at his mercy for the next week…

Meredith and Kirby. Swoon.

Meredith takes a leap of faith in her best friend and boss, and agrees to try a social experiment for the good of their blog and business.

When it becomes apparent that the leap of faith is proving testing at best, her best friend has another trick up her sleeve. Her stepbrother. No – not Meredith’s, it’s not that kinda book 😉

Let’s address the first thing you’re going to think here – Yes, I loved Kirby and Merry. Yes. The book was even more awesome because it was mainly based in Scotland. Yes, the profuse love Merry has for tattie scones won my heart over even more.

Now that we have that clarified 😉 then let’s talk chemistry.

When we’ve been taken through what is a car-crash of terrible dates, Merry just wants to relax and get this thing over with.

Kirby is not who she has in mind, but who better to show her the beauty of Edinburgh than a Scot.

The connection between Merry and Kirby is practically palpable. There’s a history that oozes from the page, and I don’t even know how Kristin conveys that. It’s conversation, glances, smiles and banter.

Merry is not only such a genuine, independent and successful character, she’s also really funny. I could feel her excitement about visiting Scotland, I could feel her love for tattie scones rivaling my own. She was so likeable, it was so easy to read her point of view for the entirety of the book.

Normally dual POV is my preferred read. I like to know what each character thinks. What makes them tick. Now, that being said, I don’t mean to imply the book would have been better if it was dual POV, but I would loved to have known what Kirby was thinking at certain points in the book.

It’s Kristin’s birthday today! Happy Birthday! =) (03/11)

Now onto the dialogue.

The reason I’m mentioning this specifically is because Kirby is Scottish.

Scottish folk like me, don’t speak good and proper. We speak Scottish =)

Slang. Accents. Both were absolutely nailed in this book.

Kirby lives in Edinburgh. Now, to a wee central Scotland lassie like myself, Edinburgh is dead posh. So the way Kristin’s onomatopoeia came across was spot on.

The only teeny weeny nitpick would be that I’ve never heard someone from Edinburgh say the word “verra” in place of very. Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, yes – those accents have a mind of their own. I’m not saying that’s wrong, it’s just something that I haven’t heard. Otherwise the readability was seamless, while nailing the accent.

That’s damn hard to do. Especially with a Scot’s accent.

10/10 Kristin!

Overall, this was a lovely wee read which spoke to my heart and reminded me of how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful historic place. With tattie scones a’plenty.

Nineteen Letters Review!!

Nineteen Letters – Jodi Perry (J.L. Perry)

5+++ out of 5!!

Nineteen. There’s something about that number; it not only brought us together, bonding us forever, it also played a hand in tearing us apart.

The nineteenth of January 1996. I’ll never forget it. It was the day we met. I was seven and she was six. It was the day she moved in next door, and the day I developed my first crush on a girl.

Exactly nineteen years later, all my dreams came true when she became my wife. She was the love of my life. My soul mate. My everything. The reason I looked forward to waking up every morning.

Then tragedy struck. Nineteen days after we married, she was in an accident that would change our lives forever. When she woke from her coma, she had no memory of me, of us, of the love we shared.

I was crushed. She was my air, and without her I couldn’t breathe.

The sparkle that once glistened her eyes when she looked at me was gone. To her, now, I was a stranger. I had not only lost my wife, I had lost my best friend.

But I refused to let this tragedy be the end of us. That’s when I started to write her letters, stories of our life. Of when we met. About the happier times, and everything we had experienced together.

What we had was far too beautiful to be forgotten.

19letters

Braxton and Jemma are quite possibly the sweetest characters I’ve read about in a while.

I could feel Braxton’s adoration for Jemma bleeding from the page.

Not many people that I can think of would have the resolve that Braxton does to pour his energy and heart into reminding the love of his life, how they connected.

Jemma has this amazingly naive, yet beautiful personality. There were times I thought wow, this poor girl is so lost. There were also times I was so frustrated she couldn’t remember, for her and for Braxton. The innocence conveyed by Jodi gave me chills. It really made me reflect and think, I am so lucky to know myself.
I think the way Braxton was portrayed was genius. The letters thrashed my emotions from elation, to devastation, to despair and back to the warm fuzzies.

Seeing one soulmate allow the other soulmate to learn who they are again because they know them that well? There’s something special about that.

The dual narration was necessary, in my view, to the overall plot. It was the only way we, as the reader, are able to get into Braxton and Jemma’s heads to empathise with their situation.

Although this wasn’t a squeaky clean romance, it wasn’t Perry’s typical work either.

She’s not even sorry that she made me cry so much…

I wasn’t sure what to expect.

But honestly, this book was just the kind of book that made me reach the last page and think – Wow.

I was in tears many times, I was annoyed a few times (whether at Jemma’s lack of reaction, or simply pissed that these two characters had their happily ever after whipped out from under their feet)

Emotional. Devastation. Fear. Joy and contentment. That’s pretty much how i’d summarise Nineteen Letters.

Love with your entire heart while you have the chance, because life is far too precious to waste on any uncertainty.”

I’m pretty certain this will be my 2017 top read. It will take A LOT to top the rollercoaster ride that was Nineteen Letters.

What would you do if you couldn’t remember the love of your life? I want to know!

I’d hope my OH would read this book and do what Braxton did… =)

Field-Tripped Review!

Field-Tripped by Nicole Archer
4.5 out of 5!!

I was done with games. But playing with her is so much fun.

Ten years ago, I was all set to compete in the winter Olympics. Then I lost everything—my career, my best friend, and my girlfriend.

After that, I stopped playing games for good. I swore never to go back to Colorado. Too many bad memories. Plus, she’s still there.

Now I live a simple life as a creative director at ShimuNAFieldTripped55x85_MEDIUM-1-514x800ra Advertising in New York. All is good, until my boss cons me and my coworkers into spending two weeks in Colorado at Proton Sports’ sleep-away camp for adults, pitching their business. Turns out Proton’s idea of a pitch is making the agencies battle each other in a bunch of ridiculous winter games.

Guess who owns the rival company? Her. And she’s out to get me.

I might just let her win.

*Field-Tripped is Book 3 in the in the Ad Agency Series and can be read as a standalone.

Nicole’s third instalment in the Ad Agency Series is every bit as good, if not more fun, as the first two.

Field-Tripped has so many laugh out loud and WTF moments that made it so easy to read and fall in love with Eli, Charlie and the crew (some of whom, we know from previous books 😉 )

Eli and Charlie have a past. They both suffer pain and loss and regret. Eli begins the book for us as guilt ridden and just a little broken. As the plot develops, we see his fight emerging. Whether he fights for Charlie or with her, it’s sort of heart-warming to witness and feel the development of Eli’s character. Charlie is introduced as a strong business woman who simply exists. She is an adrenaline junkie with a pack of loveable mutts, who are her world.

Nicole has this way. This way of giving us unlikeable, unlovable people, and making you adore them by the end of the book. Charlie was so unrelatable for me (apart from the animal lover thing) and I really doubted whether or not I could empathise with her when I started the book. Then as the plot developed, I found myself enjoying her wit and comebacks, and her vulnerability.

It’s genius really. We all read about these likeable characters who have redeeming qualities. Sometimes deep, deep, deep down lol. But they’re there. And Nicole does that with her characters better than any other author’s work that I’ve read.

It is a true talent to develop characters to someone like myself, who is pretty vanilla – might I add lol, and make me love characters who remind me of people in my own life i’d rather avoid, ha!

The dual narration POV is flawless. And the events in the “field-trip” are so entertaining on their own, that it helped lighten the atmosphere of heavier parts of the book. Descriptions and detail are also seamlessly done. It becomes so easy to get lost in the writing, because although Nicole is creating a scene and picture, it’s written in a way that you would listen to a friend tell a story. It’s captivating.

Nicole always has a serious vein running through her work. It’s disguised in wit, sarcasm, foul language and steamy bits, but it is always there. And it makes reading her work so much fun.

Check out the trailer here!

If you’ve read my review via my goodreads page on Head-Tripped, you’ll understand why I love her work so much. These unlovable misfits deserve their happy ending and I love reading about it.

Here’s to book 4! and 5!

Well, Hello there!

Ahhh it’s good to be back!

If you noticed I was gone – i’m exceptionally sorry that the blog went quiet for so long!

We even missed our One Year Anniversary a couple of weeks ago (I know right?!)

So, here’s whats new with me =)

Remember how I told you that I started this blog because I was loving reading during my recovery from back surgery? And that I was on heavy pain meds etc?

Well, in January, we had the most unexpected, amazing surprise ever.

Two. Pink. Lines.

Yup – I’ve been MIA because we just had our baby boy! =O

He is just 4 weeks old so as you can appreciate, I’m just starting to get back into the saddle with reviews. I’ve been doing them throughout the pregnancy, I just haven’t posted them to the blog.

I have two awesome books to review for you shortly and will get these posted as soon as I can!

Let me know what’s new with you!

Team Layla are go!!!

I’ve been waiting for Logan and Kayla’s story since #teamtraviola and #teamdrewtney!
I was not disappointed.
Kayla is my kind of gal. Animal lover to the extreme, loves to be there for people in need and is such a beautiful person inside and out.
Logan is mysteriously frustrating in the beginning because you just know he wants to take that step forward and how his side of the story is portrayed couldn’t have been done better. All. The. Feels.

***Spoiler***

When they do eventually get together my heart sung like I frickin disney movie. But I knew the cliffhanger ending was coming and tried to guess how KF were going to leave me desperate and hanging for book 2.
Just like Game of thrones… (no killing tho lol) I couldn’t guess the ending if I’d tried a million times.
I friggin love KF’s books for that. I never see the ending coming. I know I’ll be hungry for the next book regardless, but damn.

Team Layla are my favs ever and I’m not sorry to Traviola or Drewtney because I’m sure they’d understand… well maybe Travis might go in a huff with me but Viola will take his mind off it I’m sure. 🙂

Can’t wait for book 2!!!

Short Steal review!

I hadn’t read any of the other Seaside books but I’m so glad I read this one and am now dying to read the others.
This book just literally kept tearing me apart and hugging me back together.
The writing style was flawless and such an easy read, but still so intriguing at all points.
I’ve read a few of RVD books but loved this one so hard.
Will and Ang’s story is beautifully conveyed and I wish I could read it again for the first time. it’s definitely one of those books you want to re-read again and again.
loved it.

Full review soon – my laptop broke so I have limited access to the blog etc!

It’s here!!!!

Mallory Sims is late for her first day of work.

After spilling her tea, she discovers she has no gas in her car. Add that her arm keeps sticking to her dress from syrup left on the console of her car, flustered feels like an understatement.

Then she sees her new boss.

Graham Landry is the epitome of NSFW in his custom-fit suit, black-rimmed glasses, and a look so stern her libido doesn’t stand a chance. Being flustered is just the start of her problems.

Her punctuality is only the start of his. With a pink slip in hand, he’s been waiting on his new secretary to show up only to let her go. Then she rushes in with her doe eyes and rambling excuses, smelling like bacon and lavender. The termination paper falls to the side as she falls in his arms.

This is a disaster in the making. Not because of his pinpoint exactness or her free spirit, but because when they’re together, the sparks that fly threaten to burn the whole place down.

Her skin is pale and creamy, a soft framework for the deep chestnut hair cascading across her shoulders. A dress the color of moss in the summer showcases toned arms and a long, lean line from her shoulders to her calves. A thin rope belt cinches her trim waist, one that I can imagine digging my fingers into.I clear my throat. “Can I help you?”

With something besides getting out of that dress?

“I think you probably can,” she breathes, then blushes a pretty shade of pink. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. What I mean is …”

She’s flustered. It’s adorable and sexy at the same time. I should say something, interject, help her out, but I don’t. I like this entirely too much.

“I’ll stop talking now.” She flashes me a pretty smile, one that catches my attention in ways it shouldn’t at eight-sixteen a.m. Taking a step towards me, the toe of her shoe catches on the water bottle she didn’t pick up and she comes barreling my way.

Before I know what’s happening, I reach out and catch her under a spray of loose leaf paper.

“Omph!” she heaves as she lands in my arms and I’m surrounded by a sweet, earthy scent.

I should let her go. I should back away, direct her to the front desk to get directions to wherever she’s going, and retreat to my office. Regardless of how sexy her breasts feel pressed against me or the way her ass pops as my fingers lace together at the dip at the bottom of her spine, I have things to do today. Important things. Lots of them. Even if I can’t pinpoint one at the moment.

Large, nearly golden-colored eyes peer up at me. They’re crystal clear, almost like I can see all the way to the depths of her soul. They’re incredible tones of the purest gold and I can’t look away.

The feel of her body against mine sparks something inside me—a carnal, visceral reaction that’s led by feeling rather than intellect. “Are you okay?” I ask, trying desperately to use the brainpower I’m known for in most circles and not the cock I’m known for in others.

“I think so.” She pulls her gaze away from mine. A connection is actually snapped between us and I’m almost certain she feels it too because her features fall. “I’m just running late …”

Hell. Fucking. No.

I’m afraid to ask the next question. If the answer is what I think it is, I’m going to kill my little sister.

We both know we aren’t just talking about a moved stapler or a mishmash of files. As that really sets in, the air around us gets heavier. Hotter. Hazardous.

“Those things always lead to dangerous situations,” he says, his eyes trained on me.

I shift in my seat, the throb between my legs growing stronger by the second. “People do it every day and survive.”

“They may survive, but don’t things get messy?”

“Only if they do it right.”

His chair flies backwards and he’s to his feet and next to me before I know what’s happening. He doesn’t ask that I stand, but he doesn’t have to. It’s implied and my body reacts accordingly to his silent command.

We stand face-to-face, our breathing ragged. Our chests heave with the anticipation, the possibility, of what might come next.

“You are, quite possibly, the most dangerous of them all,” he says, his voice rough.

“Why is that?” I breathe.

“There’s no plan for you.”

“But you’ve already penciled me in, haven’t you, Graham?” I ask, finding the courage to play this little game with him. Being strictly professional is incredibly hard, and this is way too easy.

I can flirt with the best of them in a bar or on a college campus. But here, with him, it’s a game all its own. A level I had no idea I’d ever be a contender in. Maybe I’m not, but I’m going to play the hell out of it while I’m here … even though if I keep it up, I might not be here for long.

“What do you want, Mallory?”

“I want to do all the things you ask of me and do them better than you ever expected they could be done.”

A rumble emits from his throat as his eyes darken. My knees go weak and I grab the table with my left hand to ensure I don’t fall.

He licks his lips and flips his gaze to my mouth. I think I whimper as I lift my chin, waiting to see what he does next. My entire body is on fire for this man, my heart thumping so hard I’m sure he can hear it.

He moves so my back is pressed against the table, our food long forgotten. His hands are on either side of me, caging me in. Our eyes locked together, he leans in, a slow smirk spreading across his gorgeous face.

“Excuse me, Mr. Landry. Ford is here to see you,” Raza chirps through the line.

We exhale simultaneously, a giggle escaping with mine. There’s nothing funny about this, but the energy has to come out in some way.

“Mr. Landry?” she asks again.

“I’ll be right out. Thank you, Raza.”

“Oh, you’re so welcome, sir.” The line clicks off and Graham marches across the room and punches a button. The light on top indicates he’s not to be disturbed.

I busy myself with cleaning up our lunch, and before he’s at my side again, I have everything bundled up.

“Thanks for lunch,” I say like nothing just happened.

“Mallory …” He runs his hand through his hair, leaving one lock sticking up. Knowing what that will look like if we walk out together, I reach up, hesitating for a split second, before smoothing it out.

His hair is silky against my fingers. He jumps when I touch him at first, but doesn’t back away. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing went on in here. I refuse for it to look like something did. That’s the way rumors get spread, Mr. Landry.”

“Mallory, I …”

I get a final look at his face, reach up and straighten his tie as his eyes go wide, then turn towards the door. “I’ll send Ford in.”

“Mallory!”

“Yeah?” I turn to see him over my shoulder. He’s standing by the table, his hands in his pockets looking frazzled. When he doesn’t respond, I place my hand on the knob. “I’ll have that file back to you before I leave today. Thanks again for lunch.”

I walk out before I can change my mind.
